General Information

The purpose of the Paxtang Historical Society is to preserve the history of Paxtang Borough for future generations through collecting, storing, and preserving artifacts and oral history; providing educational opportunities; and promoting historical advocacy. No attempt has been made in the past to collect and preserve the history of Paxtang Borough. Our history is stored in people's memories, attics, and basements.

At present plans are being drawn to enlarge and remodel the Paxtang Borough Municipal Building. Paxtang Borough Council has agreed to provide space in the newly remodeled building to house a collection of photographs, documents, artifacts, and oral history tapes related to the history of the Borough. March 3, 2002 we formed the Paxtang Historical Society. Since then we have elected officers, appointed a Board of Directors, completed our By-laws, and are 'incorporated'. Our current emphasis is on collecting 'oral history', scanning old photographs into the computer, and documenting the history of various buildings within the Borough.

Once space is available to house our collection, we will start to collect and/or copy and maintain the various treasures that 'Paxtangers' are willing to share with us. We will use archival methods in collecting, cataloging, storing, and maintaining all records and artifacts.
